On Wednesday, 27th September 2017, a 5-people delegation from Yunnan China Culture Institute led by Prof Zhao Minghui, Executive Vice-President of the Institute, visited SCFA. SCFA President Prof Phua Kok Khoo, Honorary Secretary Mr Ng Yan Huay and members welcomed the delegation on behalf of SCFA.
President Phua said, Singapore has close relationship with Yunnan. Historically, during the time of the Second Sino-Japanese War, many volunteered drivers and mechanics risked their lives and scarified, to support China in resisting the invasion of Japanese troops. Together with technology advancement, the relations between Singapore and Yunnan become closer. Yunnan has rich natural resources, as well as diversified ethnic cultures, Singapore should work more closely with Yunnan, across sectors such as trade, culture and education. President Phua suggested, both parties may discuss on organizing exhibition based on stories of the many volunteered drivers and mechanics.
Vice-President Zhao thanked SCFA for warm welcome. He explained, the purpose of the visit is to discuss and develop co-operation opportunities with SCFA. He said, Yunnan China Culture Institute has been working very hard on promoting Chinese culture, and has archived good reputation in cultural and educational sector. He hoped that, both parties can develop closer cooperation in future. He also invited SCFA to visit Yunnan.
