A delegation of 5 persons from Yunnan China Culture Institute, led by the Vice President of Yunnan China Culture Institute, Mr Peng Lifeng, visited SCFA on 25th July 2016, at 10.00am. The delegation was received by SCFA President Prof Phua Kok Khoo.
Both sides conducted a wide range of discussions, ranged from culture, history to economy and trade. Yunnan province, as a gateway to Southeast Asia, has close relationships with Southeast Asia and Singapore. The famous diplomat Cheng Ho was born in Yunnan. During the Second Sino-Japanese War, skilled drivers and mechanics were recruited in Singapore. They drove through the Burma Road to Yunnan, supporting the Chinese resistance against Japanese aggression. Recently, with the introduction of the "One Belt One Road" development strategy and framework, and the advancement of transportation, both sides also suggested and discussed on some potential cooperation.
On the meeting, the delegation also invited SCFA to visit Yunnan in future, in order to strengthen the cooperation and relations between two sides. SCFA Honorary Secretary Mr Ng Yan Huay, Honorary Treasurer Mr Ng Swan Meen and committee member Mr Lee Sze Shyan attended the meeting.
